  1. MAKE SURE YOU UNINSTALL ANY EXISTING COPIES OF HEATHER OR STUART BEFORE YOU INSTALL THESE NEW VERSIONS! See below!
  2. Double-click on the setup file that you downloaded to start the installation process.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions.
  4. Click the 'close' button and it's complete.

3. How do I remove an old installation of the voice when installing a new version?

Windows

To install a new version you first have to uninstall the old version.

  1. Open Windows Control Panel;
  2. Click on Programs and Features;
  3. Click on the CereVoice SAPI corresponding to the voice;
  4. Click on Uninstall;
  5. Then install the new version of the voice.

Mac OS X

Simply run the installer and it will overight the old version.

4. How do I use the voice?

To read text you usually select the text to be read and then click Play on your Text Reader program?or press a keyboard shortcut, and the selected text is?read out using your chosen voice. You need both a Text Reader and the voice installed on your computer.

Here's how text on your document or page is converted to speech:

  1. The text reader sends text from the document or web page to the computer voice. 
  2. The text is converted to speech by the Scottish voice;
  3. The audio is read aloud.

On a communication aid, you typically type a message or tap buttons to create a sentence and then select it to have it read out.

5. Where is the voice kept on my computer?

The Scottish voice is installed onto your computer and sits in the background. It's not an actual program you can open - it's used by text-readers and other software that use computer voices..

Windows 10

  1. Right click on the Windows Start button (bottom left);
  2. Click on Search;
  3. Type Control Panel in the search box;
  4. Click on Control Panel (Desktop App) from the list;
  5. Click on Speech Recognition;
  6. Click on Text to Speech;
  7. Under Speech Properties, all the voices installed on your machine can now be selected and tested.

Windows 7 (and earlier)

  1. Open Windows Control Panel;
  2. Click on Speech Recognition;
  3. Click on Text to Speech;
  4. Under Speech Properties, all the voices installed on your machine can now be selected and tested.

Mac OS X

  1. Open System Preferences;
  2. Click on the Accessibility icon;
  3. Click on Speech (left hand pane);
  4. All the voices installed on your machine can be accessed from System Voice.

6. Is there an Android version?

Yes. There are Android versions of all CereProc's voices available on the Google Play store for 59p each.

Most Android text reader and communication aid apps can use the Scottish voices. After downloading the Scottish voice, you will have to set the voice as your Preferred Text to Speech Engine by either tapping on:

7. Apple cannot check the installer for malicious software?

Apple have strengthened their procedures for checking software prior to installation and Cereproc who developed the Scottish Voices have not yet received certification from Apple, which is why you get the error message, preventing you from installing the software.

To bypass this message:

  1. Locate the downloaded file in your Downloads folder - different browsers may save the file in different places, so you may have to check your browser's preferences folder to find out where the folder will be.
  2. When you find it do a 'CTRL-click' on the file name, then click on Open.
  3. Now click on the grey 'Open' button.
  4. This will take you to the Cereproc installer for the Scottish voice, which will let you install the voice.
