NOVA chat (5, 8, 10 and 12)

The NOVA chat communication aids are based on Android tablets and use the Chat software from Saltillo. A range of text and symbol based vocabularies are available including for example WordPower and MultiChat.

How do I set up the Scottish Voices?

Once you have downloaded the voice you want from the Google Play Store, go to 'Settings' on your device. You need the Text-to-speech output which can be found in different places depending on which version of Android is on your NOVA chat.

For example, if you have:

• Android 9, look in Settings > System > Languages & Input > Advanced > Text to Speech output.
• Android 4, try Settings > Languages & Input > Text to Speech output.

Select the CereProc voice that you have downloaded and then adjust the Speech rate (and pitch, if this is available) to your liking.

Now open the NOVA chat app and go to:

• Settings > Speech Output > Voice > Synthesizer.
• Select the Android synthesizer from the Synthesizer menu.
